Devotional Thoughts about 1 Kings Chapters 11 and 12
We’re all susceptible to peer pressure—not just kids. And even intelligent people aren’t exempt from it. Solomon was a universal genius with an extreme level of wisdom as well as having expert knowledge in several fields of natural science (see 1 Kings 4:29-34). But sure enough, Deuteronomy 17:17 turned out to be as prophetic for him as it did for many of his descendants.
Kids are especially impressionable. Everything they learn is through imitation. Once their social life begins, they’re constantly watching others and imitating behaviors they see as profitable.
Elementary kids are in a phase in which their friends’ approval is becoming more and more important to them. Some don’t even have friends and are desperate to attract anyone at all. Because many can’t imagine where a bad influence could lead them, it’s hard to convince them of the danger.
Lord, please help us to show them from the Bible that Your approval is the most important and to encourage them to focus on You.
