Introduction to the Lessons

This curriculum for children from the first through the 5th or 6th grade includes the kids in telling the Bible stories as much as possible. Most of the lessons call for volunteers to play various roles or carry out specific tasks. Some assignments require reading; others do not. Kids who don’t want to volunteer provide the story with an audience.

Sometimes volunteers act out the story; sometimes they move figures to act it out; sometimes they build things or take things apart; sometimes they solve crossword or other puzzles; sometimes they work math problems.

One week’s lesson is usually quite different from that of the previous week or of the next week, even if they’re all in the same topical unit. Teachers who prefer more conventional storytelling methods (for instance the use of pictures or flannelgraph) can usually still use the same basic lesson outline and emphases.

The lessons can be used in various church situations such as Sunday School, church services for children, Vacation Bible School, etc. (Some of the material may also have home school applications.)

Individual lessons can be used, one topic (generally four or five lessons centered on the same basic theme) or more, or all of them at the rate of one topic per month for three years.
